Long perceived as a simple alternative to minivans, the Ford Expedition now has far more to offer than most other vehicles in Ford's lineup. It remains just as spacious as ever, but the American manufacturer's SUV also boasts an excellent towing capacity of 9,600 pounds and legendary off-road capability. Not to mention its styling and interior finish, which have nothing to envy from many luxury models.

The Ford Expedition therefore remains an excellent choice regardless of your situation, although it is clearly aimed first and foremost at large families who love heading out on adventures.

Lineup and Pricing

It's clear that the Ford Expedition is no longer just a purely utilitarian vehicle, as reflected in its own lineup. The SUV is offered in four trims, starting with the Active model, which features appealing design and a very complete list of standard equipment. As expected, pricing begins at $86,065. Next is the Platinum trim, which focuses on luxury while staying under the $100,000 mark, with a base price of $99,695. The Tremor version follows, delivering an off-road-oriented experience. However, at $109,365, it's something you'll want to think twice about before leaving the pavement. Finally, the American-style luxury flagship sits at the top of the range with the Expedition King Ranch at $111,485. What's nice about the Expedition is that each version comes very well equipped with few optional features, preventing the price from climbing too high.

Category and Competition

The full-size SUV segment is highly competitive despite the limited number of models available. The key to success here is versatility. In fact, large SUVs must excel in every area, especially considering their price tag. In this regard, the Ford Expedition has solid arguments on its side. The model has built a strong reputation over the years and is a vehicle buyers rarely regret.

Rivals: Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, Jeep Wagoneer, Nissan Armada, Toyota Sequoia.

Design and Technology

Just over a decade ago, the Ford Expedition was a rather ordinary full-size SUV, but the manufacturer has clearly made considerable efforts to give it a distinct personality. Today, it's an eye-catching model with an attractive color palette. I must say I particularly like the Tremor trim's finish with its orange accents.

Its cabin is modern and very spacious. It offers all the technology a family could want, and comfort features are plentiful. The model delivers a particularly refined finish for a mainstream vehicle. From a technology standpoint, nothing is missing.

Performance

The 2026 Ford Expedition offers two powertrain options, starting with a 3.5-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine producing 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and standard four-wheel drive.

The model also offers a more powerful version of the same 3.5-liter engine delivering 440 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. This engine comes standard on the Tremor trim and is optional on the Platinum.

Weak Points

Does not fit most budgets.
Quite fuel-hungry.

Strengths

The Ford Expedition is a very versatile and luxurious model. Its off-road capability is impressive and the SUV lacks nothing in terms of equipment.

Signature Element

The Ford Expedition is the vehicle that meets the needs of the greatest number of buyers—if you set its price aside.

Final Word

Ford has made excellent decisions for the Expedition in recent years, turning it into a true benchmark in its segment.
